CDT: Save at a fixed term at Plata Pay's highest rate
With CDT, you put your money to work at a fixed term, with a fixed rate you know from day one.
Author: Plata Pay Team
The CDT (Certificate of Deposit at Term) is a savings product where you deposit a sum of money for a fixed term you choose and receive a fixed interest rate you know from day one. While your money is deposited, it works for you at a fixed rate throughout
the CDT's term. It's the highest-yield option among Plata Pay products.
What are its main features?
Fixed rate up to 11,5% annual effective rate (E.A.): it's fixed from the moment you open the CDT and does not change throughout the term, regardless of market rate movements. The rate you see when you open is the one that holds until maturity.
Flexible term: choose the term that suits you best, from 30 to 365 calendar days. You decide how long your money stays deposited.
Minimum amount of $100.000 COP: this is the minimum needed to open a CDT.
100% digital: open and manage it from the Plata Pay App, with no paperwork or in-person procedures.
Protected by Fogafín: your money is covered by Fogafín's deposit insurance up to the limit set by current regulations.
How much can your money grow? An example
With an investment equal to a monthly minimum wage ($1.377.960), the estimated return before taxes would be:
At 30 days, at an 8.5% E.A. rate: a return of $9.271 (total: $1.387.231)
At 90 days, at a 10% E.A. rate: a return of $32.767 (total: $1.410.727)
At 365 days, at an 11.5% E.A. rate: a return of $158.465 (total: $1.536.425)
These amounts are projections before withholding tax. The actual amount depends on the capital you deposit, the term you choose, and the rate in effect at opening. You'll see the net amount you receive in the Plata Pay App before you confirm. Check the current rate in the Plata Pay App or at plata.co.
Who can open a CDT?
To open a CDT, you need to meet these requirements:
Be a natural person of legal age.
Reside in Colombia.
Have a valid identity document.
Be an active Cuenta client. The funds to open the CDT come from your Cuenta or your Bolsillo.
How to open it?
The process is fully digital in the Plata Pay App:
Open the Plata Pay App and select "CDT".
Choose the amount you want to deposit (minimum $200.000 COP) and the term in days (between 30 and 365).
The App then shows you the fixed rate that will apply and how much you'd receive at maturity.
Confirm the opening. The funds come automatically from your Cuenta or your Bolsillo.
The CDT becomes active right away. You can have up to five CDTs active at the same time, a way to spread out terms and manage your liquidity as you need.
Can you add more money after opening it?
No. Once you open your CDT, the amount stays fixed for the entire term. You can't add more money to the same CDT after opening it. If you want to deposit more, you can open a separate new CDT, as long as you haven't reached the limit of five simultaneous CDTs.
When and how do you receive your money?
Interest is paid at the CDT's maturity, not month to month. This means that on the maturity date you chose when opening the CDT, you'll receive all at once:
The capital you originally deposited.
The interest generated over the entire term.
Withholding tax is deducted from the interest, according to current tax regulations.
The payment is made automatically to your Cuenta. You don't need to do anything else.
If you no longer have an active Cuenta on the maturity date, you'll need to give us the details of an account at another institution so we can pay you your capital and interest.
What about taxes on the interest?
When the interest is paid at maturity, Plata Pay applies withholding tax on the returns generated, in line with Colombian regulations. This withholding is deducted automatically before the deposit to your account and is recorded in the certificate you receive.
What if you need the money before maturity?
The CDT doesn't allow early closure. Your money stays deposited until the maturity date you chose when opening the CDT. So, before opening a CDT, make sure to use money you won't need during that term.
If you think you might need your savings before the term ends, consider Bolsillo: you can withdraw your money whenever you need it, with no penalties and without losing the interest you've accumulated.
How is your CDT safeguarded?
The CDT is a dematerialized instrument: there is no physical paper representing it. The digital certificate is issued and safeguarded by DECEVAL (Central Securities Depository of Colombia S.A.), the entity responsible for the electronic registration and administration of every CDT issued in Colombia.
When you open your CDT, Plata Pay acts on your behalf before DECEVAL to register the operation electronically. The confirmation you receive is informational and evidentiary: your rights over the CDT sit in that electronic record at DECEVAL, which is what gives the instrument full legal validity.
Where can you find updated information?
The current rate, available terms, and updated conditions of the CDT are at:
Plata Pay App: in your CDT, you see the term, the rate, and the maturity date of each CDT you have open.
plata.co: fees, current rates, and full product conditions.
